The inspiration for the redesign came from the strong tradition of Blandy's, a company that has been run by seven generations of the same family since 1811. Omdesign aimed to reinforce the premium nature of Blandy's brand and its wines, resulting in a more contemporary and distinctive identity.
Unique features of the new design include the family crest, which underscores the company's establishment date, and the symbol of casks, a nod to the oak cask aging process of Blandy's wines. This ancient technique, still in use today, contributes to the production of these globally recognized nectars.
Omdesign also developed new premium packaging for the superior categories, using oak and cardboard. The Frasqueira and Colheita packaging now feature a new logo and the Blandy family crest heat engraved into the wood, aligning with the brand's new image.
The project, which started in March 2015 and concluded in February 2016, was executed in Porto, Portugal. The new Blandy's image was launched in all markets where the brand is present, with colors and materials associated with Madeira wine.
The challenge was to create an image reflecting the premium nature of Blandy's, a world leader in the production of superior categories of Madeira wine, with a history spanning over two centuries. The result is a renewed identity and range for Blandy's, with packaging elements connected to the traditional production of Madeira wine.
The rebranding effort was recognized with a Golden A' Packaging Design Award in 2017, a testament to Omdesign's innovative approach and commitment to excellence. This award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
